OHL’s Ottawa 67s to Celebrate Coach Kilrea’s 90th Birthday With Pair of Special Jerseys – SportsLogos.Net News

The Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67s are bringing back a “killer” logo to celebrate a legendary head coach’s milestone birthday this weekend.

The 67s will don two separate special edition jerseys on Sunday afternoon at TD Place to mark the 90th birthday of longtime coach Brian “Killer” Kilrea. They’ll wear a classic red jersey during warmups before switching to a black “Next Gen” jersey for their game against the Barrie Colts.

The red warmup jersey will closely match the road sweaters the 67s wore in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with white maple leaves outlined in red and black on the waist and sleeve cuffs and the team’s “Killer Puck” primary logo from the era on the front. Each player will have Kilrea’s name on the back along with the number 67 on the back and sleeves.

The black “Next Gen” game jerseys also have the killer puck on the front, but without the roundel on the outside. The logo recolored using only black and red, and the maple leaf striping on the waist and sleeves is also one-color red. In fact, the only white on the jerseys appears in the OHL and CCM logos, as well as outlines on the names on the back and the numbers on the back and sleeves.

The collar of the jersey is red with a black insert at the front. Red versions of the 67s’ current primary logo appear on each shoulder. The jersey will be paired with black helmets, socks and gloves.

Brian Kilrea coached the 67s for 32 seasons between 1974 and 2015, racking up 1,194 wins in 2,156 games behind the bench — both CHL records. He was named OHL Coach of the Year five times, Canadian Hockey League Coach of the Year two times, and led the 67s to Memorial Cup championships in 1984 and 1999.

Puck drop for Sunday’s game against Barrie is at 2 p.m. ET. The 67s are also auctioning off the black game jerseys through Dash.
