‘Arne Slot ball is absolutely stunning’ – Liverpool fans obsessed with new tactics in pre-season masterclass

Liverpool fans were left purring after the Reds ended their preparation for the new season with a 4-1 win over Sevilla.

New manager Arne Slot made it four wins from four pre-season friendlies as Anfield got a taste of the Dutchman’s style for the first time on Sunday.

The Reds raced into a three-goal lead before half-time with a trio of stunning goals.

Diogo Jota scored a sensational volley, then a similarly gorgeous strike from Luis Diaz was followed by a brilliant team goal.

‘Slot Ball’ was on full display as Alisson and Virgil van Dijk traded passes inside their own six-yard box, before turning defence into attack in an instant.

A long-ball was cushioned down for Jota, who released the onrushing Dominik Szoboszlai through on goal.

The Hungarian had the presence of mind to supply Diaz for a tap-in, giving Liverpool fans their latest memorable moment of an exciting pre-season campaign.

While Slot’s methods are yet to be tested under a competitive environment, fans were quick to express their enthusiasm for life under Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

One wrote: “Slot ball is a spectacle.”

Another said: “Slot Ball is absolutely stunning.”

A third put: “Luring the opposition pressure and quickly exploiting the space left in behind them. Slot Ball is fantastic.”

Liverpool were known for their direct, heavy-metal style of football under Klopp and it is interesting to note they only had 51 per cent of the ball against Sevilla.

Peque pulled one back for the Spanish visitors in the second-half before Trey Nyoni restored the hosts’ three-goal cushion.

Jota was asked about life under Slot and the Portuguese forward was full of praise for the new boss.

“Of course, it is a new man on the touchline and everyone needs to adapt,” the forward said.

“I think we are working well, he is demanding – even with a 4-1 win he was telling us what we need to improve and do better.

“So, I think that’s the way forward. I think we have played well in this pre-season, but we all know where it counts is next week.”

He added: “Especially for the head coach, you try to come with new ideas… and when you win, that shows everyone that you are in the right direction.

“Although the most important [thing] in pre-season is getting that fitness back, building on top with wins is always better and I think that although we had people arriving at different stages we are building a fully fit XI to start the campaign next week.”
