Team India registered a comprehensive seven-wicket win in the second Test to register a 2-0 sweep against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Tuesday, October 1. Chasing 95 to win, Yashaswi Jaiswal followed up his first innings half century with 51, while Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 29 as India chased the target in 17.2 overs. The Indian team forced a result after Day 2 and Day 3 were washed out due to rain and wet outfield.On Day 1, only 35 overs were bowled.
After bowling out Bangladesh for 233, India batted in T20 mode to smash 285 in 34.4 overs before declaring their first innings. Having lost two batters overnight, Bangladesh were bowled out in their second innings just around lunch and India ended the game in the second session.

When Bangladesh Captain Shanto warned Team India, said ‘We will play to win both matches’

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto had said that his side would look to win both Test matches against India. Bangladesh team arrived in India on the back of a historic series 2-0 whitewash against Pakistan. “We will play to win both matches. The things that matter to win, the process matters… our aim will be to do the work properly. Good results are possible if we do our job properly,” Shanto was quoted as telling reporters at the airport before the team’s departure for Chennai for the first test.

“Once we lost two and a half days, when we came on day 4 we wanted to get them out as quickly as possible and see what we can do with the bat. When they got bowled out for 230, it wasn’t about the runs we get but the overs we got at them,” said skipper Rohit Sharma at the post-match presentation.
It was India’s record extending 18th series win in a row at home. Among the new players, Rohit was pleased by Akash Deep’s relentless effort.
The hosts broke multiple records on Day 4 with their brisk scoring after bowling out the visitors for 233 in the first innings. They were helped by Mominul Haque’s 107, while Bumrah picked three wickets.
It was the first Test series under new head coach Gautam Gambhir who overtook the responsibility from Rahul Dravid. India maintained their top spot on the World Test Championship points table, aiming to play their third straight final in England in June 2025.
