Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Get Fury #4! Marvel Comics recently revealed that Nick Fury has a daughter, one who is playing a key role in an ongoing mission with the Punisher to save Fury’s life. However, Fury’s relationship with his daughter is a bit more complicated than it may seem, and way darker than even Fury realizes. And now, the origin story of Fury’s daughter has officially been revealed, and it’s incredibly tragic.
In a preview for Get Fury #4 by Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows, Fury has been captured by the vietcong during the Vietnam War. Punisher has been tasked by the CIA to kill Fury, since he has classified information the US government doesn’t want in the wrong hands. However, Frank knows that the CIA really wants him dead because Fury knows about their drug smuggling operation, which Frank is aware of as well. Castle and Fury are working together to expose the CIA, so Frank needs to rescue him to take them down – and he needs help to do it.
Frank Castle has teamed up with two women who not only know Fury, but have intimate knowledge of the facility in which he’s being held prisoner. One of these women is Nick Fury’s former lover named Phuong Thuy Tram, and the other is their daughter Bian. In exchange for helping Castle, Bian and her mother want American visas, as it’s no longer safe for them to be in Vietnam. And, according to their tragic backstory, it never was.

Nick Fury’s Daughter Had Practically Her Entire Family Brutally Murdered
Nick Fury had a fling with Phuong Thuy Tram in the ‘50s during the French Colonial Regime at the start of a communist uprising in Vietnam. When the French Regime fell and the Viet Minh took power in the region in which Phuong Thuy Tram lived with her family, the communist regime labeled her family as traitors and executed them all. Tram went into hiding for years, which is when she had Nick Fury’s daughter, Bian. And even after renouncing her family, Tram and Bian are still in danger.
If anyone were to find out about Bian’s true parentage and mixed heritage, not to mention the fact that her family was once branded traitors, then she and her mother would be put to death. Add to that the fact that Bian’s father is Nick Fury, someone who was well known in Vietnam at that time, then she’d most certainly be tortured for information, and eventually executed. No matter what, these two cannot stay in their home country for fear of death after already losing their entire family, which is about as tragic an origin story as one can be.
Nick Fury’s Daughter Has All the Makings to Become the Next Punisher
Get Fury Could Set the Stage for Marvel Comics’ New Punisher: Bian!
By the end of this story, Bian could become Marvel’s new Punisher, and the plot points are already stacked perfectly for that outcome. Bian has lost her entire family besides her mother, and if her mother were to die while rescuing Fury (which is a likely possibility), then she’d have no one except for her estranged father, putting her in Frank Castle’s almost exact situation at the start of his vigilante career. Not only that, but Bian is currently on a mission with the Punisher himself, making her his worthy successor.
With everything that’s happening in Get Fury, Marvel Comics could very well have an all-new ‘Punisher’ in the form of Nick Fury’s daughter, Bian. But, even if she doesn’t take up that particular moniker, Bian is still making a name for herself in her own right, not just as Nick Fury’s daughter or the Punisher’s possible successor, but a badass character who could be the key to saving Nick Fury himself – and her dark backstory only makes Bian more interesting, and tragic.
