Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is calling for Wesley Snipes’ Blade to get his own “Logan-like” conclusion following his return as the Marvel icon in Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor took to social media to celebrate the return of Snipes as the Daywalker during the multiversal madness of the box office-dominating MCU sequel, sharing images of himself with the Blade star behind the scenes and calling him “Marvel Daddy.”

The return of Snipes’ Blade has some fans calling for the actor to continue his legacy, either in the MCU or in a fourth, separate Blade movie. No doubt many would love to see the action star receive the same treatment as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. The intention with 2017’s Logan was to give Jackman a final, conclusive send-off (before he decided to return for an adventure with Deadpool, of course), and it would be very easy to do the same with the Daywalker.

In fact, a fourth Blade could even follow Logan’s post-apocalyptic-esque tone, reusing a scrapped idea for 2004’s Blade: Trinity. The initial idea from writer David S. Goyer saw Blade surviving in a post-apocalyptic world in which vampires have now taken over. Told in the vein of “I Am Legend,” the story would have seen the last surviving humans living in camps, vampires ruling the Earth, and Blade wandering alone during the daytime.
While Goyer changed his mind, this approach could be perfect for a Blade swansong. Title it Daywalker and watch the box office roll in.
Ryan Reynolds Wanted to Give Wesley Snipes His Own ‘Legacy’ Moment
Alongside Reynolds’ cry for a final outing for Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy has revealed details (via Variety) of how the actor’s return came about.
“Wesley’s return as Blade was a very early idea of Ryan’s. We wanted to explore themes of legacy, characters and their endings. Ryan had said, “Blade never really got that moment, and I think people don’t even realize how much they miss Wesley Snipes as Blade until they see him. Let’s give them that feeling.” So, Ryan reached out to Wesley. Wesley has not played Blade in a long time. He and Ryan have not been in close touch in a very long time. But we made clear to Wesley that this was not going for a joke. This was out of reverence for his legacy as this iconic character.”
