Tennis star richer than Novak Djokovic with no Grand Slam wins continues historic Wimbledon run

Tennis star Emma Navarro has continued her historic Wimbledon run by reaching the fourth round for the first time.

Having already claimed the scalp of former world No.1 Naomi Osaka, Navarro was pitted against world no.30 Diana Schnaider.

After losing the first set to her Russian opponent, Navarro fought back to claim a 2-6 6-3 6-4 win to set up a fourth round date with fellow American Coco Gauff.

However, any prize money on offer – she earns £143,000 for winning her third-round clash – at this year’s Championship is likely to be of secondary importance.

That’s because her father, Ben, is a billionaire investment tycoon.

Navarro Sr is the founder and owner of Sherman Financial Group, which owns Credit One bank.

He has made investments in tennis whilst his daughter makes her name on the tennis circuit, purchasing Charleston Tennis LLC in 2018.

Ben completed the renovation of a 10,000-capacity stadium in Charleston and named the Charleston Open after his Credit One empire before buying the rights to the Western and Southern Open.

And the father and daughter isn’t the only family success story as grandfather Frank Navarro is a former American football player and coach.

That all means her net worth stands at a mind-blowing £2.35billion – almost three times the wealth of tennis’ legends, including Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal who have multiple grand slams between them.

In 2023, Forbes reported Federer among the highest paid athletes in the world, who earned $95m (£74m) for not even playing. He has won $130m or prize money in his career and has an estimated net worth of $550m (£433m).

Djokovic has an estimated $240m (£189m) and Nadal’s net worth is said to be $220m (£173m).

World No.17 Navarro made her first appearance at a Grand Slam in the 2021 US Open which was won by Britain’s Emma Raducanu.

Navarro was knocked out in the first round at Flushing Meadows by Christina McHale before reaching the second round at last year’s French Open.

She won her first WTA Tour title at the Hobart International earlier this year and registered a third round exit at the Australian Open in January.

She is ranked 17th in the world and has so far earned £850k, which is just over $1m. If she beats former no.1 Osaka then it is another £93k in the bank.

Navarro equals her best performance at a Slam, which came in last month’s French Open where she reached the fourth round.
