The Last of Us Season 2 Gets Hugely Exciting Production Update

Joel and Ellie will soon be continuing their post-apocalyptic adventures on our screens as Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us has officially wrapped filming. Starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay as the respective lead characters, The Last of Us (based on the hit video games by Naughty Dog Studios) is set 12 years into a viral outbreak which turned 90% of the world’s population into fungal zombies. Season 1 was a sensational hit, earning 8 Primetime Emmy Awards against tough competition like Succession, Better Call Saul, House of the Dragon, and The Crown.

Season 2 was quickly greenlit by HBO, and will adapt half of the controversial second game in the franchise. Production began on Season 2 in February this year and, six months later, has now wrapped as the project moves into post-production. The wrap was revealed by Timothy Good, an editor on The Last of Us via X. Alongside photos of an insanely fun looking The Last of Us-themed wrap party, Good broke the news that the six-month-long shoot had come to a close, saying that the editing team “will bring your hard work home now!.”

Wrapped! Congratulations to the incredible production crew of #TheLastOfUs season 2. We will bring your hard work home now!

The Last of Us Season 2 Will Feature a Major Time Jump

HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation, created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, has been lauded as one of the greatest video game adaptations of all time. Based on the hit game, Mazin and Druckmann not only faithfully adapted the series into live-action, they successfully expanded on some of the game’s underdeveloped aspects. The Last of Us Part II video game jumps ahead 5 years into the future, showing a graying Joel and a 19-year-old Ellie. Eagle-eyed fans have spotted clues in the first official photos from Season 2 which confirm that the new season will feature the same time jump.
