MUMBAI: A two-year-old boy fell to his death after slipping out of his flat from an SRA tower’s fire brigade access duct on the 15th floor in Nehru Nagar, Kurla. Residents accused the builder of negligence, saying the building has been under construction for years.
Police said when the father of Izaan Shaikh left for work on Saturday, he accidentally left the door open.Seeing the door ajar and curious to see where his father had gone, the boy stepped out of the flat soon after, climbed the passage wall of the fire brigade access duct and fell down, they said. His mother was at a hospital at the time and his grandmother was offering prayers inside the home.
Passersby found the child and alerted the family. The body was declared dead at the hospital.
Nehru Nagar police said that prima facie they have registered an accidental death report and are looking to any potential negligence on the part of the builder. “We have written to the publics work department, BMC and SRA to provide various reports on the building and whether there was any negligence on the part of the builder,” said an official.
