Transformers’ New Continuity Officially Debuts Its Most Powerful Transformer Yet

WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Transformers #13The Energon Universe has been steadily rolling out many classic characters, but the newest Transformers character to join the party, Omega Supreme, may be the most powerful one seen in the new continuity. Fans have already seen the likes of Devastator and Shockwave so far, but the latest bot to appear blows them all out of the water when it comes to power levels.

Coming from the creative team of Daniel Warren Johnson, Jason Howard, Mike Spicer and Rus Wooton, Transformers #13 flashes back to centuries-ago Cybertron, where readers get a glimpse of the origins of Starscream, who was previously known as Ulchtar. Ulchtar’s friends Jetfire and Genvo interrupt the scientist from his work, as the three are keen to see the passing of Omega Supreme, the last Guardian of Cybertron.

As Omage Supreme flies over the planet he’s assigned to protect, the issue delivers a massive reveal, introducing a Transformer of such incredible power levels, fans have to assume this new player in the Energon Universe could have massive ramifications on down the line.

As one of the Guardians of Cybertron, Omega Supreme is easily one of the most powerful Transformers around. In the classic G1 continuity, Omega Supreme was one of several powerful Guardians tasked with protecting Cybertron following the overthrowing of Quintesson rule. The Guardians eventually fell in battle with Megatron and his Decepticons, with only Omega Supreme left to stand with the Autobots. The last Guardian typically acted as the last line of defense for the Autobots, in addition to providing them with the means of interstellar travel.

Omega Supreme was actually betrayed by the Constructicons during the early years of the Autobot/Decepticon war, who were initially the creators of Crystal City, the biggest city on Cybertron. Megatron then used a device called the “Robosmasher” to turn the Constructicons into Decepticons. They convinced Omega Supreme to leave his post as the city’s Guardian, and destroyed it while he was away. Omega Supreme would later pursue the Constructicons across the stars when they crash-landed on Earth with the other Autobots and Decepticons in the Ark.

Transformers #13 finally confirms Megatron’s alt-mode in the Energon Universe, and long-time fans should definitely be happy with the results.

How much of this remains in place for the Energon Universe remains to be seen, but Omega Supreme has already played a rather significant role in one character’s life. Eager to catch the Guardian’s attention as he passes over in Transformers #13, Ulchtar races away from his friends, causing a brief explosion to get Omega Supreme to look down. It works, as Ulchtar even manages to get Omega Supreme to wave at him. Later, when Ulchtar is comforting a dying Genvo following a brutal battle, his friend tells him that he “screamed the stars into seeing us.

Ulchtar is later approached by Megatron to join his Decepticon army. When Megatron asks his name, Ulchtar replies that he is called “Starscream” in honor of what Genvo said. It’s wild to consider the meaning of Starscream’s name comes from the time he and his friends managed to gain the giant robot’s attention. Fans have to wonder if some piece of Starscream today still holds Omega Supreme in some regard, for if the Guardian ever decides to appear in the present day, he would certainly side with the Autobots.

Skybound has already been exploring the origins of the Transformers in the pages of Void Rivals, where it’s been teased that the Sacred Ring setting where that title is set is somehow related to Unicron. There have also been teases of a powerful being known as Zerta-Trion, who sounds very similar to Alpha-Trion, the Cybertronian who led the uprising against Cybertron’s original masters, the Quintessons. Given all the power levels at play, Omega Supreme will almost certainly have to factor into the ongoing saga of the Energon Universe as more is revealed about its origins going forward.

Now that he’s appeared in the Energon Universe in flashback, fans have to wonder how long it will take before the powerful Guardian appears in the present day. The Constructicons have already been revealed to be among the Decepticons stranded on Earth, so will Omega Supreme keep to his G1 characterization and pursue them across the stars and hold them accountable for betraying him? The Autobots could certainly use the firepower, as Optimus Prime an co. have struggled to keep up with the relentless assault from the Decepticons. Whatever happens next, fans will have to keep reading Transformers to find out, as the Energon Universe continues to be one of the most exciting lines in comics today thanks to its epic storytelling and surprise reveals.
