Viking Welcomes the New Viking Sobek to Its Nile River Fleet

Vikings proudly announced the delivery of its newest ship, the Viking Sobek, at a ceremony in Cairo, Egypt. This 82-guest vessel joins Viking’s esteemed fleet on the Nile River, offering the popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary1.

Named after the ancient Egyptian crocodile god, the Viking Sobek is a state-of-the-art vessel—owned and operated by Viking—specifically built to cruise the Nile. Designed with a clean, elegant Scandinavian aesthetic, which Viking is known for, she offers the ultimate comfort.

Elegant Design and Fleet Expansion

Inspired by Viking’s award-winning river and ocean ships, the Viking Sobek features the elegant Scandinavian design Viking is known for. It joins sister ships like the Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, and Viking Hathor3. Viking plans to expand its Nile fleet to 10 ships by 2026, with four more vessels on the way.

Pharaohs & Pyramids Itinerary

Guests will enjoy a three-night stay in Cairo, visiting iconic sites such as the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum5. The journey continues with an eight-day cruise on the Nile, exploring Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, and more, concluding with a final night in Cairo6.

Exclusive Experiences

Viking offers unique pre- and post-extensions, including privileged access to archives and exhibits in London and Oxford and exclusive visits to Highclere Castle, home to the Earl of Carnarvon, linked to the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb.

Award-Winning Excellence

Viking has been recognised as #1 for Rivers, Oceans, and Expeditions by Condé Nast Traveler for two consecutive years, and its Egypt ships have been featured in Condé Nast Traveler’s “Hot List” and Forbes’ “Best Luxury Cruises” list.
