Watch Marvel’s Fantastic Four Galactus Drone Show

A drone show heralding the arrival of Marvel’s Fantastic Four at San Diego Comic-Con delighted fans last night who had just taken in a special screening of the company’s latest offering, Deadpool and Wolverine. See it in action, below:

As the performance unfolded, the Brobdingnagian noggin of the cosmic entity, Galactus, dominated the skyline before gently fading into the night. In answer, the tableau suddenly morphed into a giant Fantastic Four logo haloed in flame, almost as if written by the Human Torch, himself. The startling presentation was then undercut by the informative, but less whimsical addition of “Saturday, Hall H”–the location of the upcoming panel–in an uninspiring font. Oh well. At least we know to probably expect some news about The Fantastic Four this weekend.

According to TheWrap, the display above Petco Field officially set a “new world record for [the] biggest image displayed with drones, as well as most drones used in a drone show.” While we do not know the exact number of drones used, the previous record holder was apparently 1,592. So at least one more than that.

Though using modern technology to present the image of either an alien invasion or a being worshipped as god–in this case, both–has been long-feared by conspiracy theorists, its mostly charming to see a swarm of deadly flying robots used to promote a comic book convention instead of pretty much anything else they’re used for. Let’s hope this inspires a new trend.
