Why Michael C. Hall Still Narrates For Young Dexter In Original Sin Prequel Show

Summary

  • Michael C. Hall’s return as narrator brings authenticity to Dexter: Original Sin, pleasing fans of the iconic original series.
  • Hall’s Dark Passenger voice adds depth and tragedy to Dexter’s character, connecting him to the younger Dexter Morgan.
  • Dexter may take on a reflective tone in the prequel, narrating his memories and making his story even more inevitable and tragic.

The upcoming Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin has made a major announcement about Michael C. Hall’s involvement in the upcoming series. Hall was revealed to be the voice narrator of Patrick Gibson’s new younger Dexter Morgan, which came as a shocking surprise to those in attendance at the “Dexter Original Sin” panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. The Dexter prequel series will feature many returning characters that were previously announced, with the possibility of even more after the SDCC panel.

Screen Rant reported live from the “Dexter: Original Sin” panel that showrunner Clyde Phillips confirmed a December release for the upcoming Dexter prequel series. Michael C. Hall made a surprise appearance on the panel which also announced the release of a new Dexter sequel series titled Dexter: Resurrection. SDCC 2024 proved that it’s quite an exciting time to be a Dexter fan nearly two decades after the original series was released on Showtime in 2006.

Michael C. Hall Returning To Narrate Dexter: Original Sin Maintains Dexter’s Dark Passenger Voice

It instantly adds canon authenticity to the series full of fresh faces

Before the announcement of San Diego Comic-Con, Michael C. Hall was believed to only be involved in Dexter: Original Sin as an executive producer. Having him reprise his role as Dexter via a voiceover Dark Passenger changes everything and certainly will please fans of the original series and Dexter: New Blood who were skeptical about having a Dexter series without Michael C. Hall’s iconic presence. Hall’s Dark Passenger also adds a tragic notion that Dexter has been doomed with this his entire life and will instantly connect him to and legitimize Gibson’s rendition.

Hall’s voiceover will do much to create a sense of canon authenticity to the prequel series that it arguably needed despite its numerous returning characters with fresh faces. What’s more, and is purely speculation, Hall could possibly appear as a future iteration of adult Dexter and speak to Patrick Gibson’s Dexter in-scene, similar to how James Remar’s Harry Morgan, who will be portrayed by Christian Slater in Original Sin, spoke to Hall’s Dexter even though he was just a figment of his imagination.

Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Prequel Return Makes His Ending Far More Tragic

It will be interesting to see whether Dexter’s V.O. will have a cautionary tone

Hall returning to narrate his younger story adds so much depth to Original Sin before it even begins. It will be interesting to discover whether Dexter will take on a reflective cautionary tone like a ghost from the future, in a sense, or if he will speak more directly to the audience, as he did in the original series, rather than talking directly to the younger iteration of himself. It may almost be like he’s narrating his own memories of his younger years to the audience, making everything that happens to him in Dexter: Original Sin and beyond inevitable and even more tragic.
